This is a documentary about the Downey family. They participate in Safe Families for Children, which is a nonprofit organization that's goal is to temporarily place children into different foster homes.
Permission to use music from Dewolf.
Positives: Nice job of capturing the correct "tone" with this story.
Improvements: Be careful about the framing of your interview subjects. You don't want to give too much of a profile of the person speaking. Also, watch the eye line - one of the interviews the interview subject is looking up - that is a little distracting and takes away from the story being told. Be sure the eyes are on an even plane with the lens.
Positives: Lovely and heartwarming story. Captures the emotion of the situation. Pacing was smooth. Story was clear. Started off strong and continued through to the end.
Improvements: Not sure I have the answer to this question from a filmmaker's perspective but, do you need permission from the parent/guardian to include children in a film? It seemed as if the camera was higher than the interview subjects without a clear reason.
Positives: This is an important story that is rarely told. I felt a little uncomfortable with this piece because I wondered about the legality of showing the foster children's faces.
Improvements: I'm wondering about the use of the photos of children's faces. Did anyone give permission? Did anyone give permission for the little Aiden's touching interview at the end? These are issues that would have to be resolved if this was documentary for broadcast.
