3/1 8:42 am - As soon as I read the title and before I
hit "play," I guessed this would be a
tough subject to visualize. 2 reverse pans
to open the b-roll are weak. If this auditorium
is so important, then why isn't first interview
shot in it? Majority of first :33 is talking head.
Again, i'views should be in the actual place
that's the subject of the story, not practice
rooms or offices. There's no natsot from an
unused auditorium. This piece begged for
throwing a wireless on at least one interview
subject and shooting a walk-and-talk interview
around the auditorium.
Solid, steady interview shots & good audio.
2/25 6:26 am - Your choice to include 3 perspectives was spot-on. Maybe getting one more student involved in theatre could have helped, but overall the 3 you chose were good. The audio was clean and well-mixed. The interview shots themselves were appropriately framed and exposure was good; not sure if you brought in additional lighting or if you just used existing light and then adjusted exposure on camera, but it was good.
The b-roll was okay. You have shots of the theatre in different areas, and some abstracts of equipment. What might have improved this package would be additional b-roll of some of the aforementioned safety concerns, b-roll of equipment not working (lighting grid or lighting fixtures, sound board), maybe some shots of stage craft areas with equipment that were better lit. I felt like the overall shots in the theatre or backstage were a bit dark, which begs for some additional lighting to be brought in - even something like an on-camera LED light.
