Entry Description

This is one of the stage acts for the 2021 GBN Variety Show "virtual insanity". This show was both filmed live on stage and at people's homes. Our broadcast crew of 16 students worked with the show's director to maneuver within safety protocols to make a cohesive show work.

• 4/30 8:49 am - Great job cutting between the performance to keep it interesting and dynamic. The pacing of the cuts was appropriate for the music and fit well with the dance. I would have liked to see a little more variation in framing because it seemed that you were cutting from one wide shot to another at times. Overall great job!
• 3/11 3:05 pm - Great "look" to the video. Color was vibrant and the framing of the group in the shots was solid. You had multiple angles in this shoot, but it seems most of the shots had the same "look" to them. Even though it's a group dancing, we don't have to see the whole group every second. Get some tight shots, some extreme close-ups of individuals and then keep the pacing fast in the edits so you can get every one of the girls in there. Overall, it was a good shoot. Well done.
• 3/8 8:49 am - Great use of the multiple camera angles to capture some of the dancers up close. There were a few shots that you cut some of your subjects out of frame, make sure to have a wide enough shot to capture everyone. Your pans and zooms were very smooth, nicely done with that. Overall, great job.

Judge 1

Positives: Good use of different cameras throughout the song. I thought you did a great job of making sure you panned and also zoomed in and out when needed. Also changing cameras. I felt like you did that at the right time.

Improvements: Lighting sometimes was tough to see them dancing. Also, don't be afraid to zoom in even more on their faces. That helps tell the story. I know they have masks on, but to see their face while dancing really helps.

Judge 2

Positives: I thought this was great! Looked very professional. I never felt like the camera wasn't where I wanted it to be. Nice mix of different angles and shots -- there were closeups when I wanted them, and then perspective shots as well. Really well done.

Improvements: I wouldn't change much -- obviously another camera would have helped, but you guys did a great job with the gear you had.

Judge 3

Positives: Opening shot was great! and going into the first three shots was done very nicely. Pace of switching cameras was very good. The color overall was very nice.

Improvements: The three cameras were close to matching but not perfect. One camera was brighter than the others. I would add in a little more motion to the shots, like pans, pushes, pulls, etc... The "telephone" graphic did not add to the video, I would leave it out.
