  • 4/19 7:48 pm - POSITIVES: Engaging opening! The wipe transitions work, and aren't overused. Clear instructions! Good energy on the voiceover. SUGGESTIONS: Tighter framing on the bowl (overall) and perhaps a higher angle-- we don't need to see the whole kitchen. Careful to avoid camera movement that circles around 2:07.

Positives: Good "reveal" technique for ingredients and equipment. Clear and easy to understand narrative with action on screen. Good job.

Improvements: Camera shot of bowl on table and things being added is a bit too wide. Looks odd with the other nice CUs of action. Some text graphics are not on the screen long enough to read and understand.

Positives: I thought the step-by-step process was laid out perfectly. You make it very clear both with words and video what the person needs to do for the process. You also sound very confident when delivering your message, which is important when teaching a technique. Your lighting was strong. At times with cooking how-to videos, the lighting is now uniform, and you can miss part of the process.

Improvements: I wish that there were more wide-medium-tight shots in the video. Using wipes and dissolves is a way to mask the fact that you did not change the angle often enough. While you did use some close-ups there are times you could have changed the angle slightly to add some variety to the video.

Positives: Good edits and transitions--consistent with conventions used in cooking videos.

Improvements: Would have been nice to see a shot or two of the narrator/chef cut in with the instructions...maybe at the end sampling one of the finished product.
