  • 4/7 10:46 am - Great story though there are some audio level issues, but great B-Roll and storytelling. The B-Roll matches very well with the A-Roll. Nice ending, but anchor could add a closing to round out the story a bit more. Keep up the good work!
  • 3/28 8:56 pm - Good use of natural audio at the beginning. Flash frame at :22. At 1:29, the clip of the teacher was too quick. Cover that with b-roll, as we have already established him. Or, make that shot longer. The way it is now looks like a mistake. Good variety of interviews to help tell the story. Different perspectives but they add depth to the story.

Positives: Great starting with the nats at the top of the piece. It really sets the tone for what this story is about. Great mix of teacher and student sound to tell the story. You kept the sots a great length or covered with video. That helped make the piece keep moving.

Improvements: I'm guessing the intention of the opening shot was to show the empty space or physical distance. A better option would be to start tight on the pianist and pull out. The pan made it tough to focus on the music aspect. There is a flash of black at 21 seconds and 1:35. I'm guessing that was a bad edit and not intentional Carter's interview was a bit soft and out of focus I really wanted to know more about the singer's mask. I noticed it right away and wanted more of an explanation on how it works This needed more nats breaks. I was desperate to hear the choir on the big zoom in the first minute and I never heard them until the end. Another way to end the piece is either say your name and let the nats finish it or hear nats and then say your name

Positives: - You did a great job putting this together! Editing stories with music is always a challenge. I loved the natural sound edit off the top to really set the tone, and choosing to continue that music through was the right choice. - I really like how you put an emphasis on shot composition. You have a good mix of wide, medium and close-up shots, which is great. But I also love how you picked wide shots that helped illustrate the points of your story -- that the classroom is empty, they're using the auditorium, etc.

Improvements: - While I enjoyed your shot composition and natural sound editing, your b-roll editing included some flash frames of black in between soundbites and b-roll. Always give your story a last watch when you think you're done so you can catch those. - As good as the sound quality was for your natural sound and interviews, it didn't seem as strong for your reporter track. When interviewing people, try to use the same microphone through to keep consistent.

Positives: -well written. Loved how the reporter began the piece with natural sound... it setup the piece nicely. -great use of interviews to tell the story, they flowed well in between reporter tracks.

Improvements: -would have been great to see the reporter. Perhaps add a stand-up at the end of the piece to add an important face to the piece and show presence.
