Entry is the January 29, 2021 broadcast of Crown Town Media's CPTV newscast. Excerpts of the entire show are submitted to give a representation of the whole show which features local/school news, sports and weather since the original broadcast was closer to 20 minutes in length. MUSIC: Intro is from "Audio Network" music subscription service of which we are a paid subscriber. Outro is from "Backtraxx" paid music library purchased by Crown Point High School media program.
Positives: I liked that the newscast had a variety of elements I liked that you found ways to tell stories that were about the community surrounding your school
Improvements: You're young and are doing great but I would work on your delivery. Sometimes the talent appeared nervous. Take a breath, know you're doing great and relax. I would've switched the story order in the newscast to make it flow a little better.
Positives: -Bravo on nailing a newscast! This could stand up against any evening newscast with the flow, blocking of stories, and even the students talent and comfortability on air. Great work starting with a local but important story, moving on to a more national piece, then heading into weather and sports. Exactly how I had produced shows back at a small market CBS affiliate. The content was interesting and not just filler. -The look of the talent matched for the most part and they kept a good steady energy. It felt as if they were well trained to report the news and were not intimidated by being on camera. That mixed with the production value of the show itself made it very easy to watch as if I just flipped on the news.
Improvements: -The audio went up and down a little bit throughout the show. It is something that even people in market 10 still mess up so it isn't a huge issue, but director and reporters editing packages be mindful of your audio levels. -This may seem super silly, but viewers care about this... Sebastian's look-live in the beginning is a great idea, however he was doing a standup in the snow without a coat. I was shivering for him and the snow was not relevant to the story. When you do a look live intro, try to make it more relevant to the story you are introducing and talking about. PS - I know this about the viewers from viewers getting upset that I didn't wear a coat on one of my live shots of a half inch of snow in Tennessee one winter.
Positives: -Great teases to the stories in the opening, that really hooks a viewer! -Very professional-looking intro musical sequence -The talent had great energy, pacing and tone -Reporters did awesome, great relevant package first also to lead the newscast -All talent was authoritative and knowledgeable while remaining relatable and conversational -Loved the weather graphics -Great job including sports package, felt like a very real newscast
Improvements: -I thought it was an awesome job tackling a national issue and putting together a package on it the way news stations would! Would love to see all local (school or town) news above any national news in a newscast first, barring major breaking news, before any national stories. This isn't an every-time rule. I think it could've worked either way in this newscast, given your story choices. -Very small and nitpicky adjustment, but I would've made the over-the-shoulder graphics just a tad smaller. They're a little large and distracting, but really great job on those!!
