  • 4/30 7:56 am - I enjoyed some of these shots. The casting was good, and most of the shots were set up well. Some of the composition was off a little bit. Her lip syncing was also slightly off and/or could have been enunciated a bit more. Loved the wall shot.
  • 3/12 3:57 pm - Beautiful shots, lighting, camera movement, close ups. Casting is pretty solid too. Good acting guy. Loved the shot with a wall between them, clever. Both actors are good. Wide shot walk up to the house is sweet. If you're going to sing it, sing it...much better second scene singing. little too melodramatic of a look on the dude when he starts running in the end.

Positives: The story was told well. The images matched the feeling of the song. I liked the shot with the stone wall between the characters.

Improvements: I would have liked some sound effects to break through the mix. Even if it was just at the beginning or the end. Wind rustle or the brook could have added to the concept. Many shots were to dark, a few bounce cards could have helped get more light on the faces of the actors.

Positives: You had a setup, a conflict and resolution. Three acts. Just like a Hollywood script! It's a fairly simple story but it's executed well and keeps your attention from start to finish. Both characters go on a journey and but find themselves right back where they started. That's life. I can relate. So of your locations were AWESOME. The big, wide open shots where the singer is alone in the field with trees in the background looks great. The two shot with the brick wall between you was also quite effective. And... you had enough locations to keep the story moving and the pacing was fast enough that we never got bored with any one environment. A nice mixture of city and country... showing how different the characters are. Not sure if that was symbolic on purpose but that's what it read like to me!

Improvements: OK... I have to say this because it deals with both story and directing. This guy is terrible!!! He's frustrated about something so he literally runs away from this nice girl. He spends his day finding places to sit and mope. And then finally realizes he has a good thing going so he flashes a smile and the girl is instantly back in love with him. That's a terrible lesson! Dump this guy!!!! Now... why do I think that? Story and directing. The story offers zero context as to why they're fighting in the first place. It would have been nice to flash cut to a situation where they got into an argument or where she did something cruel to him in the past but instead we're just watching a guy be a complete buttface. It would be nice if he offered some sort of grand gesture to win back her love but he doesn't. He says I'm sorry and she buys it. Instantly. There was no tension there... just a girl waiting for a guy to finish moping so they could go out to eat again. That's directing. The director can make us love or hate anyone, good or bad. At the end of this video, I didn't really "like" either character. That being said, this video shows a lot of potential. Some of the things I complained about with your video, I also say about the big budget videos I see. Visually, you're on the right path. I'd love to see what you can do after making ten more of these!

Positives: The story is super clear and nicely told. I especially liked the shots at the wall, and the earnestness of the performances, and how they matched the earnestness of the song. The video is kind of epic in its scope, and the director and producer do a nice job in getting a variety of shots, angles, and coverage to tell the story.

Improvements: The camera work was uneven. There was a terrific shot that was kind of cut short where the guy walks up a lawn. No shake and all. And then several shots that seemed unintentionally shaky or canted. Several of the shots were dark. Available lighting was generally used very nicely, but maybe more detail could have been dug out in color correction.
