  • 3/11 2:59 pm - Not right category -- not a trailer per se - just excerpts
  • 2/25 3:02 pm - STORY: the story was clear, you had a lot of perspectives and people being shared. It sparked interest for me and made me want to see this documentary. Good work. CAMERA: obviously a lot of effort and a lot of footage here. You shot interviews, b-roll, and you probably have more. EDITING: The editing pace was fine and your edits were clean. LIGHTING: This is an area where you could improve, especially for the interviews. You definitely needed more lighting for your interview subjects, which can be achieved even with very basic or cheap lights. Three-point lighting would have helped and made your video footage look much better. AUDIO: The audio mix seemed fine; I could hear the people speaking, and the music wasn’t too distracting.

Positives: The "STEMulation" trailer introduces a concept that is not often covered in the documentary genre, and effectively conveys narrative. It is inspirational to see students getting back into the field after navigating a pandemic for several years.

Improvements: The visualization of the talking heads interviews felt a bit flat, and could use some dynamic lighting (maybe utilizing a light reflector on the subject) to help stylize the piece.

Positives: I love the upbeat music choice paired with the drones flying. I've never flown a drone but now I want to! It's also great that you interviewed both students and faculty to talk about the program. The edit kept a nice tempo and wrapped up the message nicely.

Improvements: At the begging, it's clear this is about a STEM program, but it's not yet clear this is specifically about drones. Making this clear in the first couple of seconds would help. I wanted to see the full obstacle course. If the program includes building, programming, and flying, seeing shots of each of these steps would offer a nice variety for the edit.

Positives: Like the drone footage and interview style.

Improvements: Work on the titles and wording. Also, if this is a trailer, give me a "taste" of what students will be doing at the camp. Specifics!
