Professor David M. Crane is back at his alma mater Highland Park High School where he speak's with HPTV's Stephen Knobel about his most recent book “Every Living Thing” and his career as an international prosecutor of war criminals.
Positives: -excellent presenter, spoke clearly and intentionally -beautiful lighting -great use of multiple cameras
Improvements: -would have been interesting to see b-roll or photos from his career
Positives: 1. Great intro that shows you really did your research on the subject. 2. Good questions, with a lot of contextual set up to them.
Improvements: 1. Lighting is a little dark. The subject's clothing blends right into the background. 2. I would have liked to see one more camera angle or some photos that the subject provided as b roll to make the interview more visually appealing.
Positives: 1. The lighting is beautifully done and matches the mood of the serious topic being discussed. The simplicity of the set is wonderful. Our main focus is what the interviewee has to say rather than the set dressings surrounding our talent this helps the viewer focus more on the conversation being discussed. 2. The host is well spoken and dressed. They have clearly done their research to convey an effective interview as they are good at follow up questions and making sure the conversation continues.
Improvements: 1. Professor David Crane’s audio sounds like it’s coming from an external mic rather than the lavaliere microphone. The host sounds super clear compared to him and has his microphone on correctly. Make sure to put the lavaliere mic on the side where the talent or host is going to be speaking into and this will avoid the audio quality differences as it could be hard for the viewer to hear. This is a very common mistake but a noticeable one. 2. B-Roll would really be effective with this interview. Photo and videos would really draw the viewers attention and give us an inside of the interviewee’s life. B-Roll can help with your editing. You can tell there was a clear cut from time to time. It caught me off guard and it’s noticeable. B-Roll allows an edit to make interesting sound bites. However, without B-Roll visually it can be jarring because of jump cuts. B-Roll can help mask jump cuts and allows you to edit the audio without it being a noticeable cut.
