  • 4/28 6:30 pm - What worked: I appreciate the effort you put into the opening title and sound design. Matching the instagram photo with the front of the home was a great detail. Good job shooting into frame. The cooking montage was well done. The flashing light effect in the ending shot was a really cool touch! What needed work: 0:22-0:30 - 8 seconds of a black screen is far too much time in a 1:39 short film. Some of your shots would have been greatly improved with the use of a tripod. I strongly suggest you allow us to sit in that ending more. Perhaps moving the "Obsession" title to the end would allow the audience to soak up that final scary moment. Final thoughts: So much is going right with this short, but everything could also be improved upon. I suggest spending more time composing each shot, using tripods except when necessary, and thinking more about how to allow emotions to sit and exist with the audience. Part of the struggle is that your short may be too short. Perhaps you had a time limitation for your assignment, but I would have liked to have seen more plot and character development for both the main character and the scary person.
  • 4/28 9:32 am - Works Well - Nice cinematography and editing. Consistent mood and style throughout. Great job building a narrative without dialogue. Needs Work - The story feels incomplete, or at least too short. There’s no real dramatic structure here, just suspense and a scare. If anything, this would make a great PSA for being careful about what you share online in your photos.
  • 4/27 9:11 pm - You do a great job of telling a story in a short amount of time. You place SFX in spots that work really well (ex: door opening). Towards the end of your film you really use lighting to create not only suspense but also a cliffhanger. I think one thing that could improve is your sequencing. In some spots I feel like we are missing clips. We don’t see that character grab an item in a previous clip but then in the next clip they are using that item. I think you have a variety of shots and angles, but I think using a tripod would really be beneficial. Shaky video can sometimes distract your audience from what is really going on in your film. Your editing does have a good pace to it. There aren’t really many shots that linger too long or that are too short. Overall great job with this! I was not expecting that ending! Please see my feedback below: 0:32 - great use of sfx and music In some sequences there are missing shots. Ex - where did the character get the pot from in the kitchen 1:10 - Make sure you use a tripod! Placing the camera on a tripod gives you more time to think about the shots, and slows you down (in a good way). You get more time to think about the shot that you are filming and you can really think about techniques (rule of thirds, golden rule, how is the lighting affecting the frame, white balance, etc). It also helps your footage look more stable. 1:26 - Use a tripod here as well! Sometimes that shaky-ness in your clips can be distracting. 1:37 - Great use of the red light here! Really adds to the suspense.
