Mental Health Awareness - ID# 160

Vernon Hills
Public Service Announcement

Entry Description

This is a public service announcement raising awareness for mental health in high school students. I produced it in one day in my own bedroom. The creative elements are meant to reflect the isolation and self-loathing that many students feel but often go ignored. The message is meant to explain that we are often our own worst enemy, so advocating for self-help is an important step in your mental well-being.

  • 3/6 12:58 pm - Mental Health Awareness is an important topic and I thought you captured the isolation of the student well and the negative comments that can manifest. You had a good amount of shot variety that showcased what you were going for. The wording at the end felt like a lot of information and a little clunky. Try to find a way to put up the number and who they're reaching/why in a way that would be easy for someone (who is feeling in the depth of despair) to easily read it and respond.

Positives: The use of music helped convey the emotion and was well utilized with the pace of the piece. There was a variety of shots and the message was clear with a clear call to action. The use of post-it notes was also very creative in the storytelling process.

Improvements: The blur over the phone number was not extended long enough, revealing the number before the camera cut. Minor continuity mix-up with the hoodie being up/down/up in the final shots.

Judge 2

Positives: The message was brought very well near the end of the piece. I liked the post it notes as a visual.

Improvements: The phone text shot seemed too quick. Background of who put the post it notes up could have helped. Was it him or someone else?

Positives: Good story. Heartbeat very effective. Stick-up notes worked.

Improvements: Some shots were so dark could not ready "stickies" which contained some important info.
