  • 4/27 9:07 pm - Good energy in the opening from anchors but I couldn't help but think of Robin Williams in "Good Morning, Vietnam!" Energy there might be a bit too much for TV newscast. Fun show intro. I think your story ideas are great. Interesting and pertinent. The show could use a little more technical tweaking. Audio levels should be balanced, consistency in mic between both anchors, show wrap-up, etc. There's a couple of glitches in some of the transitions...a previously used graphic will pop of for a few frames. All around solid show.
  • 4/7 9:52 am - Anchors have good energy. The girl needs to smile more when not talking. She looks not too happy going into the first segment. She gets better later. Audio levels are inconsistent. The anchors were low. I had a hard time hearing them well on my Chromebook. I had YouTube and the device cranked all of the way up. The first segment starts and the audio levels are good…..but when you go to the first interview they are low again. It would be nice to have some lower thirds to identify who is on screen. Good use of b-roll. It would be better to mic the people you are interviewing. Makes them a little more clear and less background noise.
  • 2/28 12:09 pm - Cool opening- lots of good shots of the school. Boy anchor- don't force the enthusiasm. Being too excited can be just as bad as not being excited at all. Find a balance. Volleyball story package needs to use microphones in the interviews and should feature nameplates for those being interviewed. Really try to mic up the interviews in all the packages. Program flows well- you move along from one thing to the next at a good pace. Might want to try to add some music in the background of the show, especially during the opening with the anchors and the end when you start to do "non-news" stuff. Credits for your staff? An ending? Have something on there to wrap up the show. It was a very informative show with a good variety of segments. Add that little technical touch to take it to the next level.

Positives: Great work! Opening sequence is captivating and upbeat. The anchors have a nice dynamic. Loved the charity volleyball story! Great use of natural sound of the game to draw the viewer in. Photos and videos of Olivia help the viewer get a better understanding of what she was like. Reporter does a good job of explaining a complex and emotional issue, and shares how the viewer can help. Also glad to see you interviewed more than one person for the story-- including multiple voices proves credibility! I appreciate the adoptable pet segment, too-- this could do a lot of good, and those cute faces deserve to be shown! Everyone involved in the newscast seems happy to be there and determined to put on a great show!

Improvements: I would have kicked off the show with the charity story because it is the most visually interesting element of the newscast. Bee Movie does not impact as many people, so it could have come later. The weather segment has room for growth.

Positives: This is a creative newscast that certainly keep viewers’ attention. The anchors were enthusiastic, the opening was fun and the lottery was enjoyable; however, the most important factor was the quick pace moving between stories and segments. While some of the fun elements of your newscast you likely would never do in the professional industry, face pacing is always key. The quick cuts during the national anthem were a unique take on what could otherwise be a dry element.

Improvements: Your program would have benefited from some hard news to make it a more well-rounded news program. Hard news topics that are important to your school and students can still be presented in a fast-paced and impactful way that will keep your viewers’ attention. Your newscast needed to be more cohesive. More professional and consistent graphics would have helped. When you are doing a fast-paced and fun newscasts, an overall style that’s carried throughout the entire program will help pull everything together and make it a professional package. Also, make sure your audio levels remain consistent.

Positives: I like how your anchors kept high energy the whole time. If they're interested, then your viewers will be interested. I like how you were able to get a lot of content in a short amount of time. Nothing went on too long.

Improvements: The energy of your solemn opening pledge of allegiance does not match the high energy of your anchors saying hello. It feels slightly disrespectful. I think you can retrack the pledge with a little more energy, so it doesn't feel like such an awkward transition. Your intro sequence was really catchy but very long. I kept thinking it was ending but it went on for a full 35 seconds. What was the video in the monitor behind the anchors on the first story? It felt very random as opposed to local landscapes.
