A cover of Coldplay's "Yellow" arranged and performed Maine South's The Renegades. A stripped down and slower paced interpretation of the song, as it relates to the band's own experience with connection, love, and heartbreak.
Positives: There's some solid coverage of the performance. There's also compelling use of shadow and light.
Improvements: The color grading needs to be more consistent across the film. The lighting on the performers could be more flattering. The drums need a different compressor. They are not punchy enough.
Positives: The performance by the band was terrific, and captured beautifully in the video. The performance of the actors in the b-roll was nice too. The camera movement and lighting were professionally done. And the editing was nicely married to the music.
Improvements: The narrative was just too thin to support the length of the song. It probably should have been cut down. If you needed to play the whole thing, you probably should have had a C-story/roll that focused on the band doing things physically or kinetically outside of the studio.
Positives: cool version of the song. Sang well with emotion. I dug the way the visuals were split between performance and story.
Improvements: Why have a drummer in this if there's no drums in the track? I found that distracting. For such a long song there needs to be more going on that keeps the interest up. The story parts were good but that could have been developed a lot more.
Positives:
