  • 4/24 10:25 pm - KEEPERS: Well produced news story on the special olympics team. The broll was well shot between the game footage and photos of the team. Interviews were well shot and framed and composed well. IMPROVEMENTS: This is really more of a news report. This doesn't feel like a documentary, overall. This is simply a preview of a game, the game itself and the aftermath...much like a long form sports report. Most documentaries don't feature on-camera reporting from producers. I'm sorry to say this, because I value the work you've done, but I don't think this piece fits artistically in the documentary category. A documentary would feature a more rounded story on the special olympics team. The cameras would follow them from practice to the court, see the athletes in classes and get to know them more personally. What hardships did the team experience or have to overcome? Most documentaries have a sense of conflict in them. They play much like feature films do. There are emotional beats and ebbs and flows. Again, good work, but this should have been in a different category.
