  • 4/27 9:26 pm - Two anchors look professional. Easy on the pen...first sound I hear is the clicking of the pen on the desk, and then saw a flip and another tap of the pen. You have a solid voice...let that be the focus. I liked the pan of the right anchor to the OTS. Egg Harbor story is well-done but it doesn't feel like a news pkg. It feels like a YouTuber or podcaster piece with "whip" and "whoosh" sound effects, etc. I think this is an interesting piece for your audience but doesn't have that news pkg vibe. And then it just cuts quick and transitions really fast to the next story from the anchor. Not sure a "documentary" fits into a newscast. Package is well-done but felt like a Food Network piece. There are some really nice elements overall to this newscast but studying package formats for newscasts and stories that connect to your audience more would help you take this to the next level.
  • 4/19 2:35 pm - Professional looking intro- nice job. Opening was a bit awkward- the anchors say hello... and that's it. Give us some teasers r something so that when you come back from the intro, there's a natural transition. Egg Harbor was solid- nice graphics and interviews. Drama graphic on anchor appears very late. Good interviews and b-roll on the drama story. Very timely story. Two of your main stories almost seem like advertisements for those establishments. Make sure the connection to your school is made to make it plausible for your students. Coming back from a story, your anchors make no mention of the the previous story- need better transitions there to make it flow. Overall it was a good show but may be able to use more student oriented stories that will relate to them more, including just quick news that can be told by the anchors. Well done.
  • 4/7 9:53 am - Cool intro. Egg Harbor was a good story. Good way to tell the story and lots of good b-roll. Theatre story is well done. Some b-roll didn’t match up with what they are talking about. The 5 drills kind of threw me off. Also, look over b-roll. They are saying how everyone has to wear masks and then you show some b-roll of the actors on stage and you have one guy who has their mask down to their chin. When does the current play start? How can the viewers get tickets? Basketball story well done. Good camera work, good b-roll, nicely put together. Bar & Grill story nicely done, but I would not call it a documentary.

Positives: Awesome job! I couldn't look away from the Egg Harbor package. This is the kind of fresh, compelling storytelling the news industry needs. You took an everyday topic (new restaurant) and turned it into a story about survival and community development. Great, snappy editing-- very sharable. All of the reporter stories were solid. Great sound bites, shot beautifully, and well-edited. These are all topics that would interest students, and stories that deserve to be shared. I can tell all of you have a passion for putting on a great show-- and you did.

Improvements: Set lighting is a little dark. Incorporating pops of natural sound can really elevate a story. There was opportunity for this in the theater and basketball packages. Maybe mic up an actor or player, then let them do their thing. You will find gold in those moments!

Positives: The Egg Habor story was creative with shots edited to the beat and an enthusiastic reporter. It was also newsworthy since viewers are interested in new restaurants. Loved the Charlie Beinlichs feature. I could see it on WTTW. It told a great story about an institution that the community cares about with excellent b-roll.

Improvements: This program was styled as a newscast with anchors at a desk and over-the-shoulder graphics but could have benefited from more hard news at the top of the broadcast with breaking news and current events. You had clever features but more hard news is needed for a newscast. Both the Egg Harbor and Charlie Beinlichs stories ended distractingly abruptly without the reporter signing off.

Positives: I like that you reminded people where you can watch your content online. I like that your pkgs were mainly nat pkgs which allowed the subjects to tell the story.

Improvements: The tapping pen and reaching of the mask from the anchors was distracting at the start. Also not sure why you said only your names before the open. It would have been nice to establish the anchors more off the top. Both could have introduced the first story. I could barely watch the first "news" story. It was overly dramatic and all about showcasing the anchor and not reporting. The background music was awful. This is not a movie. This is news. Not every story needs an over the shoulder intro with video. It's nice to have a variety of intro shots. If you choose to do that, then start the shot with the OTS and video already rolling You also use the same line to intro every pkg "here's his/her story." It's a throw away line. Saying "Seth Fish looked at..." is plenty. All of your pkgs were very long. 1:30 is more than enough time to tell me a story.
