  • 4/1 8:55 pm - KEEPERS: Very thorough telling of the journey you all experienced with this production of Taming of the Shrew. The broll of the production was really nicely done with great color and overall shot compositions. The production audio...especially the interviews was well mixed and even throughout the piece. I feel like I know everything I need to know about this production. Very thorough storytelling. IMPROVEMENTS: The interviews drive the story of this documentary too much and after being talked to for 5 straight minutes by interviewees, the piece felt stale.. Some of the sound bytes feel a bit stale after a while. Try breaking things up with some nat sound broll from the play itself. I've heard so much about this show, so let me hear bits and pieces of it in the broll and let that serve as breaks from the interview bytes. Next time, I'd like to see you vary up your interview shots. Having two shot interviews is a bit of an unusual choice. Having some of it might be fine, but try single subject interviews and vary the location. Interview on the stage, from the tech desk, in the scene shop, costume, shop, etc. Keep the visuals of the interviews fresh and interesting. Watch your audio mixing. The music in this piece was barely audible. As a general rule, if your interview dialogue is -12 to -6db, then your music underneath that should be around -28 to -24 db. Change the song up to fit the story. Changing songs changes emotion and makes the audience feel different things. Again, find moments to let the piece breath by cutting back on some of the interviews and mixing up the nat sound and music. There's a lot of good things here. Keep up the good work!
