4/20 2:06 pm - To begin, I think the editing distracts from the actual footage. Far too many jump cuts in the edit for my taste. I think the portfolio overall Lacks diversity and its ability to highlight you as a cinematographer. What we get is a One Tone landscape cinematography package of a trip to Chicago. Continue to work on diversifying your portfolio.
3/2 4:33 pm - Pros - Nice sun kick off of the buildings in the shots at 1:12 and 1:26. The slow-mo shot on the bridge at 1:19 was very elegant as well. Cons - I have a few suggestions to make. This reel feels very over-edited; the constant breaking of the shots does not provide adequate time to take in the frame. When tackling a subject like downtown Chicago, try approaching it with, "How can I show the city in an unique and interesting way?" I'm not sure you showcased anything that can't be seen on a short walk through the Loop and Mag Mile. A lot of the compositions were too busy and lacked a clear focus or message. The recurring shot of the girl walking was the most intriguing thematic element but was underutilized a feels like a missed opportunity. Try composing your shots with a clear focus and let your subject dominate that; take the proposal shot at 1:37 and ask how you could best capture the moment? Where would you set up the camera? How are the subjects arranged within the frame? What should the background be?
