This is an excerpt from our live coverage of varsity boys' basketball.
Positives: The directing pacing was good, didn't cut around too much and followed the game nicely. During the time out the shot of crowd and the bench helped fill the time nicely.
Improvements: Some of the shots were taken a little early where the camera operator may not have been ready. Audio of the talent would clip when they shout.
Positives: - Really liked all of the crowd shots during the timeout - good work to showcase the energy in the gym during what could otherwise be a dull moment on a broadcast. - Great job with the replay - not only was it a great angle to see the previous play, the operator also did a good job of slowing it down to a speed that made it easy to see.
Improvements: - There were one or two times when you cut to the up camera and it didn't seem prepared for it - once on a huddle when it didn't really have the right framing and then again on an in-bounds where the ball wasn't in frame. Make sure the director is clearly communicating to cameras when they are about to be live.
Positives: Camera is very impressive. My favorite shot was the walking camera that showed the crowd during the game break. That was pro level camera work. Directing is also very impressive. The cuts between the multiple camera angles was very dynamic and professional. The director knew exactly when to show some crowd emotion, then get back to the game. That was masterfully done.
Improvements: Sounds - the mic is peaking and popping during loud announcer moments. I suggest adjusting gain levels and/or having the announcers maintain the same volume (use tone to demonstrate excitement). Announcers - Try to stay away from these phrases "I mean" and "Umm". Fortunately, there were only a few examples of these.
