HF Boys Wrestling goes up against Bradley-Bourbonnais
Positives: Great work! Really nice job with having the player come on and double box a shot of him and cutting cameras on the big box! The key to announcing a game is is not just the play-by-play but also telling a story, and this worked well. Camera positions covered all angles of the mat and didn't miss any of the action.
Improvements: I don't have much to say! Try to cut around where we can always see the players faces at all times, it's hard when they move around quickly. When you cut to the double box, if the camera operators don't have a return video feed, remind them when it's on to have some lead room on the left or zoom out a bit so the box of the player doesn't cover any of the action.
Positives: - Great job by the announcers. It was clear that you know the sport... and then also conducting the live interview while is really impressive as well! - Camera work was great - loved the double box usage as well to allow us to see the interview subject and match at the same time.
Improvements: - When you have an interview live during the match, don't forget about the live action. In this example there was a pin in the match and the only reason the viewers understood that was because the interview subject told us. It's completely fine to pause the interview briefly to address what's happening live... and then come back to it! - Honestly, I don't have a second suggestion. Well done!
Positives: Directing - This was very professional, very dynamic. I loved the camera cuts. That added a lot of value. Camera - I really like the close up during the interview. I've noticed a lot of sports broadcasts don't utilize the close up enough... This was great.
Improvements: Sound - This is very subtle... The mic made a lot of noise when it was picked up by the wrestler for the interview. Not a big deal, but maybe keep the mic off until after the athlete has the mic on to avoid live mic bump noises. Announcers - This is also subtle... It is always a juggling act when you have a live interview during action. I wouldn't call this a mistake necessarily, but the commentary about the actual match dipped to about 10% during the interview. Maybe try to keep it closer to 50% when there is an on air interview. (This is really hard to do. The pro sports broadcasts struggle with this all the time. Because you don't want to interrupt the athlete when you have them in the interview, but you still need to make sure people know that the current action is happening, especially if there is a big moment).
