Raquel and Paige dive into the history and success of Northbrook's world-renowned speed skating program.
Positives: - Great job incorporating so many voices into this story. I think it's well-written. You have a lot of good soundbites -- and from kids, too! - I like how you brought in different pieces of history and thought you did a great job handling those visuals.
Improvements: - You started with a bit of natural sound, which was great, but this story needed more. We know their skates make some noise while they go. I imagine the coach would be talking or shouting instructions. Include those little bits next time -- as it will help your viewer understand and feel like they're there. - Your b-roll is too repetitive. You have a lot of panning shots just showing the skaters go by. When you know they're going to be doing the same thing (skating around the track), set up steady shots that differentiate every time they come through. For example: tight shot on the skates, tight shot on the their faces, tight shot on the fingers touching the ice, etc. This helps your story flow.
Positives: I like that you used old and new video, showing the full scope of the club. Great shots on the ice Lighting in your interviews looks really good It's great that you talked to a variety of people of all ages.
Improvements: Watch your audio level on the nat sound. It seems to completely dip out or get randomly loud at different points in the pkg. Make sure to source video and pictures that you did not shoot yourself
Positives: Great use of natural sound to transition in between clips Clear reporter narration and well written
Improvements: It would've been great to see a reporter stand-up to show on-air presence B-roll had a diverse range of camera shots but i would've liked to see more sequences. From establishing shots to close ups, to transition between segments
