  • 4/10 7:47 am - 171 – It took us about one minute to hear from the commentator for the first time. Leave a little space to have him fill. I would love to see replay with some of these plays. I like the wide and close up cameras up top. Very typical production. Good baseline camera angle, but the camera was really unsteady at the minute mark. No real grfx except for the scorebug. I like the incorporation of the clock with a camera. Nice work around.
  • 2/24 8:48 pm - + Descriptive PbP. +Nice color & PbP conversation. -Shaky baseline. Maybe hold camera arm close and tight to keep cam stable. Also, use the baseline cam to show the arc of the ball to the basket. +/- Good tight shots, but don't forget their power in sports. Try to find more of them.

Positives: The pace of directing was on point, not too fast and following the action and cutting to the hero player after a make. Talent did a good job of not talking over each other and also letting the commentating breathe and not ramble.

Improvements: The camera on the courtside was a little unstable from zooming in, if the camera is able to get closer under basket, it shouldn't have to zoom in so far creating a more stable shot. The over all iris of all the cameras matched however I would suggest increasing it a little bit seemed just a little dark.

Positives: - I thought the announcers did a nice job here, both of describing the action but also of laying out and not constantly talking. There's an art to broadcast announcing, and understanding that you don't need to say something every single second is a huge part of understanding it. - Cameras did a nice job on their follows and picking up cutaways quickly so that the director had something during deadball situations.

Improvements: - The framing on the game camera could be a little tighter - especially when the action is on the far side of the court, zooming in slightly (and gently!) helps the audience to be able to see who has the ball and what is happening. -

Positives: Announcers - I really liked the calmness and confidence of the announcers. They use their words very effectively and efficiently. All while using tone to help convey the emotions of the game, when appropriate. Sound - The Sound is mixed very well. The mic levels are great. A lot of high school level mics are constantly popping and peaking from the announcers. This was THE BEST sound of all the high school sports broadcasts I watched.

Improvements: Camera - A few camera shakes at 1:14. It wasn't too bad. That will happen, even in the pro broadcasts. All you need to do is look to decrease the shaking. If your broadcast had 10 seconds of camera shaking, try to make the next one have only 5 seconds of camera shaking. Directing - I wouldn't call this an obvious mistake, more of a personal preference... I would increase the B (and C?) cam close ups. The close up shots you used looked great, and they add so much dynamic professionalism. I can tell you are a great sports broadcast director, because you cut to a close up after the and-1, because you were anticipating some high fives and fun player emotion... PERFECT. I want to see even more of that. If he is going to the free throw line, you can stay on him even longer. Not only that, I would also encourage you to experiment with even more zoomed in shots. It's hard because that will increase chances of shakiness, and losing the subject, but I still think you should experiment with that.
