Chicago's own The Hustle performs "Milky Way" from their 2022 record, "Extended Play," telling the story of a coincidental meeting between two young people that blossoms into something more over the course of a night.
Positives: The visual forward motion is solid. It moves well.
Improvements: Some moments are dark. I'm viewing this on a calibrated monitor.
Positives: This music video is spectacularly shot and lit. Professional-level all the way through. I really liked how the editing was structured. It felt reminiscent of 60s or 70s music videos with its liberal use of dissolves. When those dissolves were used even more in the your A-roll with the two actors, and all the B-roll with the band got mixed up with it, and it all happened near the climax of the piece, I wanted to give a standing ovation. An extra flower--great job using what look to be an actual working band.
Improvements: If I could dock just one point for the story I would. It was a little unclear to me. The tone of the piece and the wonderful performances by the actors kept me wondering throughout the whole thing: what happened? Did they just miss the train? Are they both searching for someone? When they disappear at the end, am I supposed to believe they are ghosts? This is the drawback with trying to tell a story purely visually, when your song doesn't help to do it. But a really minor point for a beautifully done piece.
Positives: This was fantastic. It's a long song but you managed to keep me interested the whole time. I'm glad he ran back! I was like... it's dark, dude. Walk her home. shot layering was very effective. Also great locations. the lines on the parking lot made some really cool angles.
Improvements: Story got weird there for a second. But that's not a big deal. I don't have much to complain about. Maybe less band in the band/story ratio?
