  • 4/25 10:06 am - This is a dynamic reel - including a great diversity of shots from various projects - exactly what a reel should do! Good work! Some shots are little shaky, so use a tripod when using a long lens or when you are tight, especially - and in general. Impressive work - keep it up!
  • 4/20 10:53 am - PROS - Very strong image design work here! Your ability to capture human faces in compelling ways shines through in your work (0:02, 0:16, 0:22, 0:31, 0:55). There is a ton of variety present and the mix of point and shoot style shows your ability to adjust to your environment. The shots of the ducks is very strong camerawork and shows good framing ability, in addition to the CUs. The shot of the Goodman has nice natural light play and the CU at :55 has great depth through both lighting and DOF. CONS - The two biggest areas for improvement in this (already strong) piece would be to improve image contrast and exposure in certain environments (0:02, 0:12, 0:49, 1:05) so your black levels don't come out too milky and your coloring doesn't get muddy. Second would be to use a tripod or camera stabilizing device whenever possible. You have some very smooth and graceful shots juxtaposed with shaky shots that don't seem like they need to be and take away from the composition (1:07, 0:23, 0:38). Keep shooting and developing your eye, you are on the right track!
  • 4/17 4:51 pm - Great variety of shots, movement, and lighting conditions. Good follow of the action, but some of the shots were out of focus, or difficult to know exactly where your focal point is taking us. The shallower depth of field shots worked really well with the slow-mo. The use of additional lighting could help you access details with your strong sensor and lensing.

Positives: A showcase of cinematography. Good variety & mood. Portfolio quality.

Improvements: Bird wing flapping doesn't work well with frame rate

Positives: 1. Your editing here was your strongpoint. I think your strung together a wide variety of clips that show how versatile your portfolio and experience is. 2. The majority of your shows were wonderfully composed. You displayed that you have knowledge of the rule of thirds and how to use them well, as well as showing that you have precise control over focusing your shots cinematically.

Improvements: 1. I am lowering marks on your camera department because it seems that you do not understand the fundamentals of shutter speed and its relation to frame rate, as a few of the shows had movement that were incredibly choppy. Especially when considering how much slow motion was used, these choppy movements are very noticeable. 2. It seems that different frame rates were used for some of these shots. While these may vary depending on the project, it's best to export your project with a constant frame rate.

Positives: I really liked the use of slow mo. Especially the shot with the runner. I can tell you have a distinct style to your shooting. Its consistent throughout. You had some great shot variety and it flowed really well. I was a fan of the drone footage.

Improvements: You have too much headroom at :23. The shot itself is clean but i would say come down a little. I also wish it was a bit longer- more drawn out. It is a very nice move going along the profile. I wish you wrapped around their face a little bit more. Coming more towards a 3/4 angle. :25 I would move the car or at least close the door. Its feels jarring and out of place in frame. We want the focus to be on the car with the lights on.
