A trailer for a full length documentary which follows the kids from School of Rock Park Ridge playing a European tour. It's full of humor, fear, and drama. Watch them as they rock your socks off at their first international music festival.
Positives: The trailer for "Rock Your Socks Off" sets up an exciting documentary, and does a great job in its edit to make the story clear and concise - and fun. The quick, stylistic cuts make this seem like a thrilling event, and show the large scope of the documentary.
Improvements: Though the sound of the actual music and band seems to be recorded well, the audio could have been improved when shooting the talking heads interviews by placing a mic closer to the subjects. It is slightly difficult to comprehend the actual context and background for the story because of the muddy audio (such as when the band manager says "the main event is Rock in Rio") - even though this piece does a great job to tell the story visually.
Positives: That was fantastic! Great pacing in your editing, building it up to a fever pitch. The story was clear but you didn't give too much away. Great use of interesting environments. This was interesting from start to finish
Improvements: It was a bit too long in my opinion. I think you could have chopped it down considerably and still told the story you wanted to tell. The shot that begins at 1:09 was too long and a bit too winey for the vibe the rest of the trailer puts out. But only minor complaints... this was a job well done.
Positives: You created a very well-crafted trailer that makes me want to see the full documentary. You built the tension the participants were experiencing through the voice track and with your editing. The camera work and editing were also very effective, during the sequence that starts around 40 seconds. This showed some of the environment where the event was hosted as well as some of the actual competition. Both were helping to make this very informative and exciting trailer.
Improvements: The acting was very well done. When recording audio, try to find a recording booth or a room that is more appropriate for recording audio. The voice track is a little hollow and takes away from the overall effectiveness of your project, especially since this is about a rock concert. I'm a little mixed about my next comment. I've watched it about 5 or 6 times. Sometimes it feels like the cutting should be a more deliberate series of shots that are on screen longer, that doesn't abruptly stop at about 17 seconds, and other times it works. If this were my project, I would look at that and decide what supports my intention the best. Also, consider that there is a similar sequence at the end of the trailer that works very well just as it is.
