  • 3/1 1:39 pm - Story: I think there is a lot of great storytelling within this film. I didn’t get lost while watching the characters go through these unexpected events. I especially like when the story flips at 2:07 and one of the characters is now on the computer. Sound: Sound effects and music work well together. It worked to create a suspenseful and eerie tone. There are parts of the film where I would love to hear rustling/footsteps from the characters (0:51-1:00). Camera: Great camera work at 1:22 with the camera moving up as the characters get closer to the box. You use a variety of different camera angles and they are in focus! I do think the shot at 1:02 is a bit distracting with it being shaky. I would suggest putting the camera on a tripod for a shot like this. You may not think that tripods are fun, but they really do help! It helps you slow down and think about the shot that you are creating! Lighting: You have a lot of dark shots throughout your film. (For ex: 2:12). Even if you were going for that darker look with the film being in black and white, you should still plan to use lighting on your subjects. The audience wants to see the subject’s face and their reactions/emotions. Sure, the darkness applies to the mood/tone of your film, but most of the time your subjects’ faces get lost in the blacks of your shots. Editing: Great use of masks and keys throughout the film. Especially at 1:55 when the bunny floats in the air. Great cut at 2:05! It flows really well! Overall there was great pacing and the editing helped convey the story clearly.
  • 2/24 1:45 pm - Love this concept. I don't think I've ever seen cutaways and shot-reverse-shots quite like this – very clever! The merging of the digital world into the real world was a fun commentary on the digitization of reality. If it was cookies instead of bunnies – it would have been a clear commentary on browser cookies – just a fun thought. The acting and pacing was solid too. Everything on the computer was clever and quite brilliant, really. The editing including the SFX were fun and well paced. A little more story and some dialogue on the front end and back end could have gone a long way. If we knew the characters before the interaction with the bunny, all of the emotions would have hit harder. Sound effects and design was fun and creative, but I want to hear environment sound as well (footsteps, etc.). The music was at times too loud and some of the sound felt like it was peaking. Overall, very fun and clever. You should be proud of making a very unique piece.
  • 2/23 9:52 am - Camera: Camera work showed proficiency in shot composition, shots were in focus, nice variety of angles and shot types. Lighting: the choice to do the film in black & white doesn’t mean that you don’t need to bring in additional lighting, especially for your subjects. Even if you are going for a dark/moody film noir vibe, you still need lighting. Sound: Great music choice; very suspenseful. The sound mix also seemed appropriate between your sound effects and the music bed. Editing: Good editing pace that matched the music bed and fit the mystery vibe. Nice integration of stop motion techniques to create animated bunny, nice use of keying to make the bunny move in the air. Story: Story was clear, nice twist at the end.
Judge 1

Positives: • Very good use of closeups & mise en scène to tell the story with pure visuals and no dialogue- and yet still retain a great sense of humor- really enjoyed this! • Hilarious concept & execution - would love to see more ideas like this- feels very original.

Improvements: • The sound design was accurate but could have been utilized more heavily throughout- if you're gonna use some sound effects, use them for everything (footsteps, reactions, etc) - because unless you're experimenting, the film may end up being too quiet (the music helps in this case, however). • The visual effects are used in the right places (and with great comedic timing)- but more time could have been put into the VFX to really sell the idea of reality blending w/ fiction- lots of potential here.

Judge 2

Positives: The sound composition is thought out and balances well with the theme of the short. Variation in cinematography keeps the story engaging and was an excellent choice.

Improvements: Adding room tone into the soundtrack and paying close attention to the location of sound effects sonically could improve the narrative. Within the coloring of the film, the use of experimenting with color creatively can further enhance the story as well as the black and white.

Judge 3

Positives: I thought the framing of some of the shots was really unique. I liked the "security camera" looking shots.

Improvements: The box and bunny appearing in the hallways could have been a lot smoother. I also would have liked the see some of the shots in color, and then the "security camera" looking shots in black and white.
