  • 4/24 10:45 am - POSITIVES: Effective dramatic opening, especially the black screen over, "Kate isn't gone." Solid editing to the beat of the dramatic orchestral music bed, which reinforces the tone and increasing tension of your trailer. Excellent teaser at the end with the MISSING poster of the person who is the protagonist! That's an intriguing hook that makes me want to see the rest of the story. Great job setting the stage, without revealing too much and leaving unanswered questions. ...AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Nothing big comes to mind, but perhaps the overall lighting doesn't support the mystery of the story. The lighting is bright and happy throughout. Perhaps a color filter or correction that could make the visuals just a bit moody would support your story in a stronger way.

Positives: The trailer for "The Secrets of Kate Monroe" utilizes a clever structure to draw in the audience. The opening VO "I know three things" creates a compelling mystery concept. The editing to the music give the trailer an effective, rhythmic tone.

Improvements: The reveal that Kate Monroe may not exist comes a little too abruptly, and some of the shots (though well composed) in the second half of the trailer do not seem to connect with the plot - such as Kate dancing. The voice-over recording is well written, but the recording itself seems a little muffled and compressed.

Positives: cinematography was continuously interesting. Great settings and creative composition. Camera work was solid. Elise was convincing. Editing kept you engaged and build up the anxiety nicely. Great soundtrack.

Improvements: Could have run a little tighter with some of the redundant parts cut out... but give or take that note. I thought this was fantastic.

Positives: The first 48 seconds of your trailer are extremely effective. The cinematography is excellent. You chose dynamic camera angles like the one at 18 seconds. In addition, the lighting and color supported the theme of your trailer story.

Improvements: Consider ending your trailer after the line "Does she even want to be found." End this sequence with the shot at about 1:03 where the notebook is flung across the table. This would leave a lot of questions about Kate unanswered which is the sort of thing you want to do in a trailer.
