  • 4/20 4:22 pm - Keepers: Nice colors and lighting in your interview set ups. It looked very nice. You had some nice pieces of archival broll. The story was complete and it had a good throughline from beginning to end. Improvements: Work on your interview set ups. Your primary shot is too wide and too centered. Frame your primary as a medium close up shot and follow the rule of thirds for asymmetrical balancing. Then your secondary shot move it to a close up. In terms of broll, this piece needs more. If you only have one interview subject, you really need to fill your documentary with broll to keep it visually fresh for the audience. There were times when we were focused on the interview shot for too long. If you don't have enough broll for that, then shorten up the piece. From a story stand point, this would have worked better as a 4 minute piece. Work on your music choices. The music gets stale and you need to make the music transitions bigger. Use music and LACK of music to drive the emotion. Look for moments in the piece where you can songs where the interview subject is NOT talking for a few second. Then you can bring it up in the mix and it provides a natural breath and transition for the audience.
  • 3/6 7:01 am - Good job getting multiple angles of interview subject–consider making one of the shots closer to differentiate them a bit more. Great use of b-roll to illustrate what is being said. Audio needs a bit more balancing.
