A girl navigates her life filled with struggles at home, isolation at school, and crushing inner sadness. She finds her muse in songwriting and learns how music is her positive outlet.
Positives: The story moves well.
Improvements: The vocals are out of tune. The red gets old very quickly.
Positives: I really love this video. It was shot, lit and edited like a 60s experimental film. The performance was committed throughout, and the whole thing was epic--not just like the kids mean, but in scope and ambition. The rain shoot was just spectacularly done. The setups with the keno-flos/fluorescent bulbs in the background were pro-level. I also like what was done with the sound as well--cutting out of the song, using diegetic sound, then coming back in.
Improvements: I could have used a little more of an arc or story. I never found it boring and it never lost my attention. But the danger with any longer experimental film is the question of how can you still build a sort of narrative arc with an exposition, conflict and climax, even if you staunchly don't want to tell a story. I might have liked a return to the home situation or the parents that the main character was trying to block out, closer to the end.
Positives: That was great! Double respect points for the soundtrack and talented main character. You managed to change the focus enough throughout the song to keep the viewer engaged. Great use of effects and colors. This looks like a lot of professional videos being made in LA right now.
Improvements: Tighter shots. Most of those shots could have been trimmed. And there was a lot to look at but there needed to be just a little more. Another sub story. At certain points it dragged. But only minor. Overall it was totally awesome!
