This is a news package about how a student, Alex, uses art to express his identity and promote representation of diverse groups of people.
Positives: - Great story! I love the soundbites you picked from Alex that only he can tell. That really helps the viewer understand your subject. And the framing of your interview was beautiful. - You did a great job of incorporating a lot of his art into this story, and that was smart on your part. We get to learn more about who he is while you're telling us. Nicely done!
Improvements: - Nitpicking here... I thought this story needed some more natural sound. We see Alex sketching and painting. Next time, put a microphone close to the sketchbook or artwork so that we can hear the sketches or paint strokes. This helps the viewer feel like they're there, and thus, helps them better understand your story. - I just feel like this story needed a little more shot variety of wide, medium and especially tight shots.
Positives: The lighting is phenomenal. Not sure if the room was really bright or you added extra lighting, but every shot looks great. I love how you added different pieces of Alex's art to use as broll. It helped tell the story and illustrate his message. I like how you allowed the subject to tell the story through longer sots, instead of using your track to tell the story for him.
Improvements: Do you put subtitles on all your pieces? When you work at a news station, there is closed captioning. You generally only do subtitles for sound that might be difficult to understand or police scanner sound. I would have loved if you did not zoom in on the poster at 1:51. If someone wants to go to that event, they might want to read down the information about the event.
Positives: Great writing and use of video to reflect what's being said Good framing on the interview subject
Improvements: Would've liked to hear some natural sound... sound of Alex coloring, picking up brushes, etc. The natural sound adds character to the piece
