  • 4/10 7:49 am - Good energy with the PxP and commentary. Clearly, this close game was fun to call. One suggestion – “He’s going for the win” but he pulled up for a two for the tie. Don’t call the game you think is happening. Call what actually is happening. I heard you name players on both teams. Nice job. I saw a replay and it showed a great look of the block. Nice work. The scorebug showed five timeout for each team, but clearly that wouldn’t be the case at the end of the game. Just hide or remove those. Multiple camera angles showed the crowd and the game. I would have liked to have seen a close up camera on players more. It looked like you dedicated a camera just to the student section. Lastly, I really wish I heard and saw more of the actual game. Im not a huge fan of the post game. Show me the skills we have during the course of the basketball game. If we are going to show the post game, let’s get more personal, let’s bring up stats and have variety.
  • 3/4 9:09 am - -Use the baseline cams when players are at the basket - especially big plays. Don't just use it for replays. +Good PbP at the end. Exciting. Nice energy. -Lower outro music.

Positives: Very nice job! The pacing of directing wasn't too fast and cut to the hero of play after a score. Talent was informative and did a nice job with the closing of the show. I like the music under-bed that came in at the final of the play. Good reaction shots of the audience and bench.

Improvements: The audio of the talent was a little soft compared to the replay effect sound and music.

Positives: - I really liked this. Camera work was good, announcers had a strong call and brought lots of enthusiasm, all around everything was very well produced. Two things that stuck out: - Loved the replay! The timing and angle were both great, it was slowed down to a speed that really let us understand the play, and you brought it in during an appropriate time where we didn't need to rush out of it back into live action. - Great job including camera shots of the fans in the stands - it really enhances a broadcast to see the energy and emotion in the gym, and that was on full display in those shots.

Improvements: - The music that came in towards the end was far too loud relative to the announcers and made them a little difficult to hear. It did get faded down eventually, but be careful of levels when you're bringing in elements like that. - It seemed like the announcers may have been expecting a replay package at the end of the game. This is minor, but a good lesson for the talent that you never know if the control room is having a technical issue... so I would try to avoid saying something like "let's look at the highlights" until they're already on the screen so you're sure they're going to happen!

Positives: Directing - This was exceptional directing. There was such a great mix of great camera cuts - Wide angle to see the action, close up to see individual player emotion, shots of crowd to show the energy... That was a masterclass. Camera - I really enjoyed the camera work. The wide angle shot was a great view of the whole game. The close up shots were zoomed pretty tight yet still stayed steady. A+ for Camera and directing. This was professional sports broadcast level... Just today I was watching The World Baseball Classic and the pitcher struck a guy out and was giving HUGE energy on the mound... then they cut away! I was upset as the viewer. Something very interesting was happening and they cut to a boring shot. They needed you directing that game!

Improvements: Sounds - The mic peaks and pops a few times when the announcer gets loud and excited. Experiment with the gain levels of the mic. And/or have the announcer keep the volume low and just use TONE during excited moments. It's really hard to find another thing that I think needs obvious improvement... I really enjoyed this broadcast. Since I can't find another thing that needs obvious improvement... My advice is to just keep doing great work. Consistency is really hard. SPORTS METAPHOR ALERT: Anyone can play good defense for 20 seconds. A great defender can do it all game, every game, every year. You set the bar high for yourself, keep it up and don't lower your own personal bar of hard work and skill.
