  • 4/25 10:18 am - Compelling shots and camera work, including tracking shots. Too many of these shots used treated footage, which is a distraction in this category. Unfortunately, streamed at max res, the images showed pixilation. Truly hard to judge effectively craft with so much work put into post.
  • 4/20 12:15 pm - PROS - Lots of good compositions and cinematic movements in this reel. Good use of artificial lighting and creation of texture at 0:28 and 0:36. The framing in most of the close-ups was strong and allowed the subjects' performances to shine through. CONS - Although you picked strong shots to display, this reel is very short and many of the shots are repetitive. That, coupled with the heavy use of post effects, it makes it difficult to fully judge the range of skills listed in the rubric.
  • 4/17 4:52 pm - The last few shots were the strongest when they were clearly in focus and the movement to set them up and to transition made sense. How you present your shots in the editing is worth 20% of this category, but the actual exposure and composition (which is 80%) were off. It looked like you added post effects to many of the shots and with only a minute it's hard to see your ability to use light and your camera.

Positives: Liked the smoke effect

Improvements: No preview. Somewhat basic and short

Judge 2

Positives: 1. Your match cuts were well done for the most part and gave the editing that was lacking a good push in the right direction. 2. Your use of lighting in a variety of scenes fit the filmic quality you seemed to be trying to achieve.

Improvements: 1. Your editing was lacking, as it seemed that you held onto a few shots for too long but cut a few frames too early. Be sure to show the subject you are trying to show and only show what is necessary, 2. Your choice of music was not fitting. While going for a cinematic feel, you lost sight of what the music you use can afford to your piece and it seemed more intense than I think you were expecting.

Judge 3

Positives: You have a lot of creative shots. I really like the profile LS of the person walking and how it kept changing. The first shot fo the reel is really solid. I really like the focus shift. I do wish it was little longer. The movement feels really nice. The one of the person running out the door immediately followed by the amazon ad is solid. I liked the teal blue you chose at :49. That and the magenta immediately following that. Both of them are not too harsh. Good work.

Improvements: I feel like some of the shots could have been a bit longer. The first shot I would hold just a beat longer after the focus shift. The focus shift moves the audience through the frame but you have to allow time for the audience to take in the new frame once we get there. The coca cola can is a really good shot. I wish frame was a little moved back. I would suggest going back a little more and lower to make the can look even bigger. That one is personal preference.
