  • 3/31 4:09 pm - Keepers: The story is very well told and visually I felt like I was seeing everything I needed to see. Nice work on the interview set ups and diversity of broll. The pacing of the edit was very strong. Improvements: My biggest issue about this documentary is that for the majority of it, I never get to hear the band play - which is the most important aspect of the story. I need to hear more playing from them. It really hurt that there wasn't more nat broll of rehearsals or previous gigs, etc. It's the classic case of telling rather than showing. There is so much cool archival footage in this - why not use the sound too? The music cue of "Chain" by Fleetwood Mac went on far too long. You need to change the music as the tone and tenor and subject matter of the story changes. It's fine to start with that song, but then change it to something different once you start talking about the band forming and then again once the band is together. Music is a VITAL part of documentary story telling and you cannot just use it as a bed. It need to change as your story changes. This is especially important if you're not going to use much natural audio. Overall, this was a really nice visual piece, but the audio storytelling didn't match up. Keep working and telling stories!
  • 3/5 8:23 pm - Great job getting multiple angles of the interview subjects and interweaving their interviews. B-roll looks great and effectively matches the subjects’ content.
