  • 4/27 5:59 pm - The lighting and use of an interesting setting is so effective. The music and the driving SFX are deeply unsettling. The manual settings went such a long way – I even appreciated when things were out of focus – that's the difference of manual. Very strong editing and experimental sequences. The motion being off really made an impact for the better. All of this is reinforced by a superb acting performance – the excellent acting ties everything together. There were some moments where things were overexposed, but the energy of the film was so clear and driven that I just trusted the process. This film reminds me of a David Lynch short (if in a David Lynch short things made more logical sense)! Extraordinary. Very ambitious and you succeeded. I wish I could provide more criticism that you would find useful, but this is so good that I stopped judging it and couldn't help but embrace the ride - therefore, I have to simply trust your decisions. As someone in the film industry, it is very challenging to turn off my industry/critical brain, and this film did just that. One detail I would suggest is adding a disclaimer that this may be difficult for photosensitive viewers. Some of the flashing light sequences could really harm someone with epilepsy. Giving that disclaimer keeps everyone safe. Excellent, excellent work – I really hope to see more of your work in the future.
  • 4/21 9:35 am - Story: It’s clear from the beginning that what’s behind this door is making this character go mad and insane. The story is out there, but it works with how you crafted the rest of your film! Sound: Great sound design. The creepy sting instruments made it even creepier! Camera: I love the shot when the character stands in the doorway and we just see their silhouette. Great choice! You also used a lot of different camera shots and angles that helped amplify your film. Lighting: You made great lighting choices throughout your film. The high contrast definitely helps with the mood of your film which makes it more creepy. You have a strong understanding on how lighting works and how it can affect your story. Editing: Great choices with the style and color of your film. It really helped to enhance the eerie/creepy vibe. Great job with the short montages in the middle and end of your film. Your cuts reflect the overall tone of the piece.
  • 2/23 12:17 pm - Camera: A lot of the shots were framed well and showed a range of angles and movements. The choice to go black and white fit this film’s mood as well. Lighting: Great use of high contrast lighting. It enhanced the creepy vibe. Sound: the creepy sound design was excellent, but watch your audio levels. At certain points, the sound levels seemed like they were peaking. Editing: The editing worked really well with what appeared to be the insanity that was afflicting the main character. Great abstract visuals cut together to symbolize the strange, nightmarish dreams. Story: the story was a bit ambiguous, which I’m sure you intended. You didn’t reveal WHAT was beyond the door and why it was driving the main character insane. H.P. Lovecraft would be proud.

Positives: • Really loving the experimental approach you took- especially with the cinematography & color grade on this one; Reminiscent of The Lighthouse - and frankly it's beautifully executed- you have a style & vision that is very difficult to replicate. • The sound & musical score is fantastic- you nailed the feeling & unsettling nature of the subject matter - And props to your actor- he killed it.

Improvements: • The ending felt a little abrupt- not sure if that was intentional or just due to time constraints- not a huge deal, however. • Perhaps the moral of the story (perhaps some powers are better left alone) could have been a bit more clear.

Positives: The editing is stylized to play into the narrative. Acting is very well done

Improvements: Narratively it feels as though there's no structure to the plot; Would be nicer in wide screen

Positives: I can definitely see the inspiration pulled from the film noir type genre!!! I thought this film was overall very unique. I really liked the framing of shots throughout the film.

Improvements: The filter used at times was a bit grainy. I think the focus was also slightly out, but noticeable enough in some shots. Some of the transitions and cuts could have been a little bit smoother as well.
