I feel like all your broll was from the feed from what was recorded from the broadcast, so what of this was yours other than the interview? The music I am guessing you dubbed in to hide commentator talking, but as a result you put music in which is something you should not do in a natural audio package. Which leads me to the obvious, where is your natural audio – the whole point of the piece? I think your topic was fine, but because you didn’t shoot the b-roll yourself, your hands were tied behind your back on what you could do to make this piece work. I am guessing you possess the skills to pull a story off, next time pick a topic that will allow you to better demonstrate those skills.
  • 4/16 1:33 pm - The purpose of this category is to use the natural audio from the b-roll to help tell the story. There was no natural audio on the b-roll - if there was, we would have heard the live music along with the natural audio from the arena. Bring the natural audio up full from the performance so we are hearing what’s happening in the arena or are hearing the broadcasters narrate what is happening during the performance. The music you used may have been the actual music that they skated to, but it was not the natural audio from the actual b-roll clip that you used - it was too clean and did not have the sounds from the arena. Too many jump cuts in the story - those should have been covered up with b-roll. Or to avoid it, when interviewing her, have her repeat what she’s saying so you don’t have to edit down what she says.
  • 3/6 2:26 pm - This is a really interesting story and you did an excellent job cutting your interview to tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end. The interview shot was well framed and I like how it was done in school to emphasize the fact that this skater is also an every day student. However, I think this project is better suited for documentary filmmaking category as I don't hear any natural audio that you have recorded. I wanted to hear the sounds of the ice rink to help tell this story- think the sounds of crowds cheering, teams being announced, skates on the ice, coaches coaching, etc. This is such a unique and fascinating subject matter and I would encourage you to develop this into a full documentary.
