  • 4/27 11:11 am - I really like the behind-piano angle. Recoment Cut to the singer faster when she starts singing. When the singer is leaning on the piano not signing too much of her with nothing going on. Better to get a shot of someone playing. Remind camera ops about headroom. The audio was clean and crisp. Thanks for submitting!
  • 4/27 10:24 am - Critique primarily for director. 0:10 - About half of the frame is dark. 0:14 - Good angle & composition. 0:16 - Tough angle, with front guitarist blocking second musician. 0:18 - No need to chop the feet of the right violinist. More effective switching if cuts matched primary beats. 0:58 - Lots of empty space. Can this camera get head-to-shoulders? 1:08 - Center him. Get off her at 1:16. 1:21 - Half of the frame is empty. 1:27 - Tighter with more nose room. 1:41-1:45 - Not much going on here. 1:49 - Lots of empty set behind her but she’s cut-off at the knees; tilting down avoids this. 1:59 - Crossed The 180-degree Line. Clean audio.
  • 4/13 8:19 pm - Thank you for your entry and sharing your creation with us. I very much enjoyed viewing your submission. Just a few observations. Thanks for providing an opening card! Good audio. Framing of shots overall good, pacing and shot takes also. Brightness level on one cameras lower than others, leaving some performers noticeably darker. If possible, try to setup all the cameras as equally as possible. Again, enjoyed viewing your submission and thank you again for entering!

Positives: -Great job opening the show with a wide shot that establishes the scene -There was a great variety of shots (wide, medium and tight) and they were fluid and worked well together

Improvements: -Try to follow the action the moment it begins. Seeing the singer as soon as she started singer would help alleviate confusion from the viewer. Always anticipate the action and the camera shot will follow -Some of the shots of the singer were a bit awkward when she wasn't singing. Try to focus on the action and make sure every shot serves a purpose.

Positives: Great use of the multiple camera angle's to capture all area's of the stage and musicians. Nice slow zoom out of the stage at the end with the applause tied it all in a bow.

Improvements: Some of the shots of the lead singer had some framing issues such as headroom and lead room mistakes. The camera shooting the piano player is nice to see a couple times, however we don't see much from that low of an angle, perhaps, zooming in on the player's hand or a single shot of just the violinist would be more visually interesting.

Positives: - Sound was mixed well - Lots of good closeup shots of the singer, who was (rightfully) the focus of this piece.

Improvements: - Some dynamic camera movement - controlled zooms, pan/tilting across the horn section, and utilizing dissolves between your shots instead of just hard cuts every time. - Would like to see some closer shots on some of the instrumentalists as well instead of just wide shots of the entire section at once.
