  • 4/27 11:14 am - Remember to take a shot after it's set. 0:49 Might want to use a wide shot there to see all the movement. The sound is good. Like the use of close-up creative angles.
  • 4/27 8:10 am - Critique primarily for director: 0:08 - Position crosses the 180-degree line (repeated). 0:46 - Take shot after it’s set. 0:49 - Go to extreme-wide shot for safety & so we can see this transition fully. Takes on beats for the most part so far. 1:46 - Pan left. Or maybe right. Just because the tripod head is capable of panning doesn’t mean every 2nd or 3rd shot must pan. Pan/tilt/zoom for a practical or aesthetic reason. 2:40 - this quick-take sequence didn’t sell me more on the drummers’ skills. Would have loved to not only hear the audience’s enthusiasm, but also see it. Good audio.
  • 4/13 8:26 pm - Thank you for your entry and sharing your creation with us. I very much enjoyed viewing your submission. Just a few observations. Overall good framing, pace of shot takes and camera movement. A few shots stayed a bit tight and would have been better a bit wider. Clean audio. I recognize we only have a few minute clip, but a graphic / lower third could help add performance detail. Again, enjoyed viewing your submission and thank you again for entering!

Positives: -awesome variety of shots that flowed well with the performance -great job anticipating the action and getting the action shot

Improvements: -it's great to start with a wide, establishing shot so the viewer can see everyone (similar to the shot you ended it with) -try to avoid panning, it can be a bit distracting and throw off the flow of the sequence

Positives: Nice work!! I really like that the directing was following the beat to music. Nice work of having movement incorporated with pans and close shots of just hands on the drums. I really like that you anticipated who had the solo and cut fast enough to try and see it!

Improvements: There may have been limitations to having all the cameras low angle, it would be nice to have a few shots that were slightly more eye level or higher balcony/pedestal camera angle's, but again I understand there may have been venue limitations so no worries!

Positives: - Loved the variety of camera shots and the pace at which they were cut. This was very appropriate for the energy of the drums in this piece. Having some shots where you focused just on hands was great - and I'm also glad you didn't do that TOO often, because we want to see the faces of the drummers as well! - Also loved the extremely quick cuts at the end - it's not something you want to do all the time, but it was perfect for a subject like this. - Sound was crystal clear.

Improvements: - At the part where some people got up and switched seats, anticipating that with some wider shots to better show the movement would be appropriate. -Honestly, that's all I have. I thought this was great!
