  • 3/24 11:49 am - Works well - Fun concept. Great use of special effects and variety of effects on display. Needs work - There's not much of a story here, aside from a simple premise. Special effects alone are not funny. More than anything, this felt like an excuse to try out lots of cool effects. This works best as a demo reel.
  • 3/2 12:38 pm - Looks professionally edited. Great work on the special effects. Wow!! Creative concept
  • 2/21 2:22 pm - Camera: consistent camera work and exposure, everything focused appropriately and framed well. Lighting: solid lighting Sound: the majority of the dialogue seemed balanced and mixed correctly. The special effect sound at :48 was WAY too loud and overmodulated. Even when you want a sound effect to be dominant, it still needs to be mixed appropriately. Watch your levels on the VU meter. Editing: nice opening graphics, cool laser effects, overall clever uses of editing, transitions, and compositing to achieve the super power tests. Nice editing pace. Story: The concept was entertaining but what mostly sold this as a comedy wasn’t the story; it was the vast amount of special effects that you added. It’s clear that you put a ton of time into making this, and I imagine most of that time was spent in After Effects. To me, the funniest part was toward the end when the mundane brother hit the bad guy with the shovel.

Positives: Great straightforward story and sequencing. Classic "new superhero" plot (gets powers, learns about powers, facing something bigger than he can handle, saved by power of friendship (his brother). Excellent training montage - did very well in setting up/telegraphing powers that are about to be used in the boss fight. Impressive editing.

Improvements: Again, this is a pretty classic structure (have seen it in Spiderman movies, in Shazaam, etc) - so it needs other pieces to bump up the comedy. We had twins, so having different personalities (and/or different opinions about the powers) would help. Any time the audience can see what's coming, that's a chance to flip/subvert/twist the narrative towards something unexpected in order to get laughs. He's got powers? We know he's gonna experiment/train. So how can we make that sequence UNexpected for humor? We expect a supervillain to show - how can we make them different from what's expected (for instance, it was a small, and maybe accidental thing, but I loved that the villain had "GAP" on his sweatshirt).

Positives: very well done special effects not a bad concept

Improvements: establish a bit more dialogue

Positives: I really appreciated the vast array of superpowers you were able to visually demonstrate. Lots of really cool stuff there. Lots of really spectacular action shots that made this a delight to watch. Great work, keep making movies!

Improvements: While this film does a fantastic job of showing off some really great special FX work, I think you could afford to lean further into the comedy elements and add in a few more beats of humor.T This is a nitpick, but the extra-dimensional villain was wearing a GAP sweatshirt, and I'm not sure if that was an intentional joke or an oversight. It did make me laugh either way!
