Busy is an original song written and performed by Dan Darrah. Darrah sings his groovy song on the train while b-roll of Chicago plays over.
Positives: Lip sync is solid.
Improvements: The b-roll is full of exhausted Chicago cliches. How can the images support the narrative more effectively? What is the narrative structure of the edit? The color in the bus is not flattering for the subject.
Positives: I love that you were able to use a performing artist, and get him to perform the song on the train. You had a surprisingly large number of setups on the train--multiple cameras or takes? I really liked the story as well, especially when you cut to the home video, it connected to what I think he was singing about in the song.
Improvements: While mechanically the piece was well edited, I dinged you a little on story and editing because I thought the piece could have been structured better, so that you had more of a narrative arc. As it stood, the piece got repetitive by the end, especially given the length of the song (which you probably should have cut down). And while there aren't a lot of ways you could have lit on the train, you could have positioned the artist differently--you had one shot with him in silhouette. More of this, and a structure to it, might have helped a lot.
Positives: I liked that you were using different types of footage to juxtapose the train shots. I liked the shots of his kids! Very cool location. Lucky you got an empty car. It made for some interesting footage.
Improvements: There was a whole lot of song and not enough variation in the footage to really keep it interesting. I would have gotten your train shots in multiple locations so each chorus was different maybe? That would kept the interest a bit more.
