  • 4/23 4:05 pm - Pacing is really managed well in the editing, with tension building to a frantic pace at about 1:00. The music bed supports this as well, although you might do better with transitioning from the 1st music bed into the audio effects that support the suspense, rather than just dropping it out for awhile, and then moving into the audio effects. Great shot variety & solid camera work. Movie reviews on the front end work well, and the titles are professional at the end. Black & white works well!

Positives: The trailer for 11 Miles was an effective exercise in pacing and tone - using a slow build to the reveal of the ghostly sister. The quick edits grab the viewers attention and make the apparition all the more haunting. The use of an operatic "sisters" song created a good juxtaposition of tone, ultimately making this feel very "creepy" - as intended.

Improvements: The outdoor scenes felt a bit flat in their lighting design. Ultimately, the filmmaker is at the mercy of the weather, but some relatively simple tools/techniques could have been used to play with light and shadow, and overall contrast. The "lore" of the 11 miles was also a little unclear.

Positives: This trailer is awesome! teased the story just enough to spark interest and then hits you with the big payoff at the end. black and white element added to the suspense.

Improvements: The drone shots look cool... but I think they might have been a bit overused. They look dramatically different than the other shots. The pacing on the titles seemed rushed. I also would have cut that big reveal shot down by half. All you need is a quick taste for the eye to know there's something awesome going on.

Positives: The camera work is amazing. The choice and variety of angles we well-planned and support the story of your trailer in a professional way. The editing is also excellent. Each shot is on screen exactly as long as it needs to be there. The care you put into planning and production makes this a very successful trailer.

Improvements: I am having a tough time coming up with improvements. You can look at two things regarding font choice and text placement. Make sure the text blocks fit within the TV title safe zone. A couple of them look like they may be slightly outside of that. Try to avoid keeping the text block on over two shots. Make sure that they cut at the point of the actual cut. Did you look at different fonts to see which will best support your story? There is nothing wrong with the one you are using. But you may want to look at other options.
