4/25 9:38 am - Good framing and solid use of the close up in many shots. The camera work is also solid, particularly the follow-action using a stabilizer. That said, this reel does not showcase a great diversity of shots - it's an excerpt from a completed short film. This fact limits the possibilities of the category. That said, the piece does show some solid camera fundamentals, but on occasion suffers from overexposed backgrounds. There are some audible audio pops during cuts. The video haloing effect is distracting as it is preferred to see shots are well exposed and well-lit in this particular category, rather than "treated" shots from post.
4/19 2:20 pm - PROS - Your shots do a nice job of cutting together to show continuous action within the scenes. Most compositions are well balanced, particularly the scene beginning 0:52. The CU framing at 1:19 is very nice; exposure and color are complimentary to the image and the composition is well framed. Overall, the camerawork does a good job to accentuate the object symbolism conventions used in the storytelling. CONS - The shot samples lack variety in that they do not fully show the range of all the elements listed in the rubric. White balance is inconsistent from shot to shot, within the same scene. Most of the lighting situations are high-key interiors, which does night adequately show your ability to shape and control light in varying situations. When shooting multiple shots within a scene for continuous action, make sure the actors repeat their movements and that they overlap from shot to shot. This will help the edit at 0:19 be less jumpy. Be careful with your exposure levels when shooting toward exterior windows (0:52, 1:44) to avoid blooming within your frame. Overall, your closeup character framing is very strong and stands out in your work.
4/17 4:49 pm - The excerpt demonstrated editing more than the use of light and editing for a cinematography reel. Shots were often out of focus and overexposed. A few of the shots really worked well and I would encourage you to keep building on those with the natural light behind you and to find ways to add artificial lighting and to dial in your exposure purposely to accent your composition.
