- 4/16 1:28 pm - What a great story to promote an area of your school that I’m not sure gets much attention! You’ve got great natural audio in your story - just be sure that the natural audio matches the video we are seeing. For example, we shouldn’t be hearing the natural audio of someone sanding when we’re seeing the teacher or seeing the cornhole games - because we’re not seeing anyone sanding. It needs to match up. Very nice sound bytes from the teacher and the students. Consider putting a mic on the teacher or on the students while they are working to hear what they are saying and use that to help tell your story.
- 3/6 2:19 pm - Your news story had outstanding examples of natural audio. I loved hearing everything going on in your classroom from the wood being cut to furniture being sanded down. I also like how you included the sounds of your teacher talking to your class. Your first interview talked about why the student wanted to take the course. I would have rather begun with some contextual information about what the course was about. I think this would have made the story more organized and easier to follow. Most of your interviews are well framed, but I would make sure that your interviewees are looking at you asking the questions instead of the camera. Think too about how you are aligning your a-roll to b-roll. When your teacher talks about "Building products you can actually use" show the shots you have of the chair. This was overall an outstanding showcase of audio recording and editing and one of my favorite projects to listen to!

Positives: Great sound bites of the woodshop that match the visuals you see on the screen. Great variety of tight, medium and wide shots to show what goes on in the classroom.
Improvements: I would stay away from the fade transition shots, especially when it goes to a b-roll shot to an interview with Connor. You can start an interview with video over it and then cut to the sound bite a few seconds in. Use a tripod. There were a few shots that I can see the camera shaking.

Positives: Good use of the natural sound to create a sense we are in a wood shop.
Interview sound is good.
Improvements: ShAkY iMaGeS are distracting. Interviews should be on a tripod.
Hide the microphone cord.
Too many special effects take away from the piece. Dissolves always indicate change; time, location etc.

Positives: Great tight shots, and I LOVED the transition where a student walked past and revealed the tight shot of the machine at :11 seconds.
Great use of natural sound, especially the clip of Mr. Macki lecturing. Some of the clips could have been mixed a little better so the transition between sounds was a little smoother, but the sounds you chose to feature were great.
Improvements: Mr. Macki's framing was good, but the two students could have used better framing for their interviews. Frame them so that they are standing on one side of the frame and looking towards the other side. Use your rule of thirds!
