4/21 1:32 pm - Story: The story was unclear. I’m not quite sure what the character was trying to do. There wasn’t any character development. I feel like we were missing some background on what was really happening. What is the motivation for this story? Sound: I think you did a great job editing the soundtrack and juxtaposing it with a much slower one. I understand that this is a silent film, however, I feel that for this dramatic narrative category, your film could have benefitted from some kind of dialogue. Perhaps when the film goes back to color and not when it’s in black and white. Camera: At 0:04 you have a really great opening shot! There is not much of a variety of different shots. I would suggest including cutaways, especially when the character is brainstorming and writing on the stairs. Lighting: Overall you use lighting effectively. You did not have overly dark and super bright shots. Editing: Overall, your editing felt more comedic rather than dramatic. I think having a playful song and editing to that and changing the color of your film added to that comedic effect. I also don’t quite understand why we go from black and white back to color so much. What was the reasoning behind that?
4/21 12:50 pm - It was interesting how the music and black & white footage had a relationship in the edit. The play between diegetic and non-diegetic sound was entertaining, but it is challenging to compare this to other videos that used sound and dialogue. Good compositions and variety of shots. Similar to sound, the editing was playful and fun. I appreciated the shot from above and the cuts between the drawings and what they become in real life. However, the changes and edits did not feel entirely motivated by the story. You have a knack for playful editing, storytelling, and experimental film. I would suggest making it more clear in the story how and why you are commenting on these things.
2/23 1:49 pm - This just didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Story wasn’t clear. Camera work was pretty limited. Editing pace was slow.
