- 4/27 10:49 am - Love seeing the crowd's reaction. The Audio mix is good and you can tell it's live. 0:27 Framing - the singer on the left is in the shot or out. It can be tough with moving performers. 0:39 Nice close-up of the guitar. The dissolves were a good choice for this music.
- 4/27 7:58 am - Critique primarily for director:
0:00 Give us the entire, human body in a true, wide shot - especially when there’s too much set wall above their heads & they’re cut-off at the knees.
Finally a crowd/reaction shot! Had to wait until this entry in this category.
0:27 Framing is awkward; singer on left is in the shot or out? Too much empty set wall. This shot should just be kept as an extreme wide with all humans in it all the time; your safety shot when other tighter shots fail.
0:39 Finally a tight shot of a guitar or drumsticks; nicely done.
1:41 Tough shot; wanted different angle of drummer but her back/shoulders don’t add much to this shot.
1:10 Essentially a cut here between two of the same-looking shots. Cameras should always be set-up and/or framed so director can go between wide-medium-tight continuously and in any combination.
Good choice of dissolves between shots to match mood instead of cuts.
Clean audio.
- 4/13 10:25 am - Thank you for your entry and sharing your creation with us. I very much enjoyed viewing your submission. Just a few observations. If you have the ability to insert graphics / lower thirds please do so. Liked the crowd reaction shot. Nice pacing and framing. Good audio mix. Thank you again for entering.

Positives: -Great audience shot to show a cool moment with the band
-Nice job opening the performance with an establishing shot of all 3 performers
Improvements: -I would avoid using dissolves to transition, a simple cut will work
-Make sure your shot composition gives enough headroom and doesn't have too much empty space
Judge 2
Positives: I like all of the different camera angle's used especially shooting into the audience getting their reaction. Nice slow transitions and closeups of the hand on the bass strumming of the strings and close up of the performer's face singing.
Improvements: As mentioned, I liked the dissolves to keep the pace of the directing with the music piece, however I think some of the shots were used for a little too long and could have been switched a little more frequently.
Judge 3
Positives: - Good variety of close/wide shots to help keep things visually interesing.
- LOVED the inclusion of the audience shot with the cell phone lights waving! Great decision to include that and let us feel that the crowd was in to the performance.
Improvements: - Remember in a live performance that people are going to be moving around, so camera operators should always be ready to adjust their framing so we're not caught with someone half on camera.
- Seemed like we really only saw three of the four people on stage - remember to try and mix your shots up so that we see all of ther performers!
