  • 4/24 2:24 pm - POSITIVES: Shots of the brainwashing team are mostly lit dramatically (except for :20) and work well. Great transition @:30 using a zoom in on the black tshirt. ...AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: STORY is a bit thin... what "decisions" do the brainwashed viewers make that increase views for the broadcaster's newscast? Not clear--need a few more clues. Story needs to include 1 or more characters that are fighting against the fake virus narrative, instead of just, "let me out of here" when they are abducted. TECH: Needs more variety in shot composition & framing--too many "victims" shot dead center with no camera movement. Try Rule of Thirds and/or ease in to improve this.

Positives: The trailer for "Virus 64" uses its edit and music design well to deliver tension to the audience. There is a shot at :18 which displays a lot of creativity in the way it is depicting a shocking moment. Some of the camera compositions (such as the 2/3 close-up of the headphones on ears) are impressive.

Improvements: The trailer could be improved by inserting a few more narrative beats that clarify the story. The sound recording process could be improved in this piece by placing recording devices closer to the subjects - and the dialogue tracks in the mix currently feel like they are "peaking/clipping".

Positives: yes! you definitely understood the assignment. there was a lot said, but nothing definitive. By the end I was confused but intrigued. That's exactly what a trailer should do. Great prop work and costumes.

Improvements: Lose the labels on clothing maybe? I find it to be distracting. The editing could have been a bit quicker. The titles only needed about half that time. But overall, great job!

Positives: Through story and editing you have made a very interesting trailer. The editing is very well crafted. You build the suspense continuously. You have a nice variety of shots that helps to draw the audience into your story. The story of your trailer says just enough about the final movie to capture the interest of your audience and inspire them to see the entire project.

Improvements: Some of the handheld shots are very effective. Consider doing a few more shots on a tripod and a few less hand-held though. That will amplify the impact of the hand-held shots. The shot at about 30 seconds works great and is an excellent example of an impactful hand-held shot. The camera motion is excellent and it fits your story very well. The lighting of the person wearing a mask at 30 seconds looks great. The lighting is just right. Consider using that low key lighting technique in some of the other interior shots.
