  • 4/25 1:28 pm - PROS - Very strong compositional skills! Most of the movements are smooth and used with purpose over flare, which is so important in staying true to the story you are telling. Artificial lighting skills are very strong, especially when producing vibrant coloring and creating mood (within the party scene). Lots of diversity helps to display very strong overall photography skill. Shots with practical lighting (0:49) and practical lighting effects (0:55) were appreciated and well done. CONS - cityscape shots (0:01, 1:12) would benefit from a tripod; tripods are your friend when shooting landscapes and distant subjects. The back light on the Porsche guy is so intense that it almost makes the scene look like it was shot on a greenscreen; back it up to decrease the intensity and the stand leg won't be visible in the shot either. Two notable exposure inconsistencies; the shot at 0:23 is about the player inside the helmet and his eyes are the darkest part of the shot. The hockey players look underexposed as well, relative to the soccer players. Very strong work overall! This is a reel to be proud of.
  • 4/25 12:06 pm - Beautiful work - and impressive across the board. Great diversity of subjects and lighting conditions. Most compositions work great, some better than others. The camera movements are usually fluid and beautiful. On occasion, you would be better served using a tripod for still shots. Lighting is highly considered and effective, Great job overall!!!

Positives: A couple of the single face close-ups

Improvements: Limited range of shots. More basic than most.

Positives: 1. You are great with establishing shots and capturing beautiful scenery. Your city shots and environments were well done. 2. You use lighting well in your scenes, both in interviews and scenes. The shot that stood out to me was the poker chip shot, because your heavy contrast and orange color temperature gave it the noir vibe it seemed to aim for.

Improvements: 1. Despite cinematography reels not always having a set theme, this piece would do better if it had a theme or was edited in a more consistent way. I feel that some of your shots were not contributing to the cinematography, especially after opening with some beautiful scenery. 2. This piece was too long because it used shots that were unnecessary to a cinematography reel. You relied on shots of people talking, be it in interviews or within scenes, too much. I would've liked to see more of how you can record environments and people without dialogue.

Positives: This is a really good work. I can tell you have a good understanding of filmmaking. I am a big fan of your POV shots. both on the seesaw and the soccer. The hamster wheel shot looks really good. I'm curious if there is any BTS footage of how it was pulled off. If it was you or others the team did a great job keeping it steady and keeping the talent at the center. 1:25 Has a really nice frame within a frame. I'm assuming you were looking through a doorway but it adds emphasis on what is happening inside. It creates a good mood for the frame.

Improvements: At 1:16 I'm not sure if it was intentional but I would frame up a little differently. Probably move the camera to the right and down so our talent in the foreground is following the rule of thirds better. I'm not sure if this was intentional or not. If it is intentionally framed up this way then it should be in some way motivating the story and moving the plot along. At :10 I feel like I wanted a subject to focus on. Its a nice establishing but I'm unsure if I should be focusing on the dog, the people in the bottom left or the person mid right of frame.
