A 7 camera shoot of an act from Glenbrook North's Variety Show, Kinetic. Production involved a week of rehearsals and run-throughs.
Positives: -the opening establishing shot was a great way to start the performance -nice use of a variety of shots to keep it interesting
Improvements: -try to avoid using a lot of dissolves. It's natural for the eye to cut to shots without dissolves unless it has a purpose (avoiding a jumpcut). -Pan only with purpose, if you're revealing something the pan works great
Positives: Very nice work! Sometimes the hardest thing to direct is a solo singer but there were plenty of camera angles and use of rule of third's to keep things interesting. Being a slower placed song having the use of movement and dissolves really helps keep the visual pace align with the pace of the music. Good job using an advanced skill like the super-imposing of two cameras!
Improvements: One thing I would suggest is to include a few close up shots of the background singers, even though they are not the key performer, they still can be highlighted. Just a VERY nit-picky comment since everything else was very good, a couple times there were transitions of two very similar shots that broke the 20mm 30 degree rule (AKA jump shots) in film which also applies to all media composition, look it up on Google and you'll see what I mean.
Positives: - Performances with one lead singer who isn't moving around the stage a whole lot can pretty easily become stagnant from a camera perspective - this one didn't. Great job utilizing a variety of pans/tilts/fades to keep this visually engaging. - Sound was crystal clear and well mixed to emphasize the lead singer.
Improvements: - Would have liked at least one or two shots that were closeup on the backing vocalists - we really didn't get a chance to see them.
